Celtics owner Wyc Grousbeck and president of basketball operations Brad Stevens took the stage for nearly 30 minutes on Friday morning to address the season-long suspension of head coach Ime Udoka, but offered little detail into how they ultimately handed down one of the most significant penalties in franchise history.
Citing privacy reasons, Grousbeck didn’t reveal further facts and circumstances regarding Udoka’s suspension, which is reportedly a result of an improper intimate relationship that the coach had with a female member of the Celtics organization, a violation of the franchise’s code of conduct. But backed by a lengthy investigation and led by an outside law firm, Grousbeck is confident the Celtics made the right decision.
“I personally feel that this is well warranted and appropriate, backed by substantial research and evidence and facts, and so I’m standing by the decision and Ime has accepted it,” Grousbeck said.
“I’m not going to comment on the investigation, but we found there was enough there to take action.”
